Blisse’s Birth Story

I am a single mother, and found out I was pregnant with twins while in college in Tennessee. I needed my family’s help so I moved back home to Las Vegas.

Everything was going great until November 6, 2011. I woke up that Sunday morning spotting. I had a doctor’s appointment on that next Wednesday, so I was debating just waiting, because it wasn’t a lot of blood. But something told me to just go to the emergency room!
I went and they had to call a high risk doctor.  When she came she did an ultrasound and told me I was already 4 cm dilated… and that I was having contractions.  They started me on magnesium to stop my contractions… that made me vomit! When I vomited, baby a’s sac ruptured.
I ended up having to be transferred to a Level III hospital.  I was able to hold my babies in for 2 weeks, but on November 19th, my contractions started back up and my son’s heartbeat was dropping.  They did an emergency c-section.  Sadly, my son ended up passing away 28 minutes after birth.  They said his throat was too small and they had issues putting the tube down.

Day 1… Day 115… NOW!

My daughter stayed in the NICU for 4 months! She is now 15 months. Thank you for letting me share my story! Proud mommy to son, Kaidyn Justice (baby a) and daughter, Kenslei Justice (baby b).

Aimee Sprik About Aimee Sprik

Aimee Sprik (IL) is mother to Connor, born unexpectedly early at 26 weeks, in December 2008, due to an infection. Connor, with his parents, survived a complicated 120-day NICU stay, which changed their lives forever. Since bringing her son finally home, she's felt passionately about volunteering her time and resources to supporting fellow NICU parents, both at the hospital where Connor was born, and by co-founding Life after NICU, an online parent support forum now moderated by Hand to Hold. You can follow Aimee on her personal blog, Sprik Space, or send her an email.
