Bragging Rights

Hello all you preemie parents out there!

Here’s your chance to brag about your preemie, or any of your other miracle children.  Just for the fun of it!

I’ll take my turn right now:

My preemie has the silliest personality and a great sense of humor!  She loves to sing and she makes songs up about all kinds of things.  Right now she’s singing “up the hill, up the hill, dun-da-dun-da-dun!” and I have no idea who or what is going “up the hill”!  She also loves the alphabet song but lately she only sings “w-x-y-and-z!” over and over and over.

When my preemie is sick (she just got croup again this week and is still coughing) she is especially sweet and endearing to the point of unbearably cute!  So, she woke up at 2:00am Tuesday morning and was struggling to breathe so I took her into the bathroom where I ran a shower for awhile to surround her with some humidity.  Then I bundled her and myself up and went outside on our balcony (there was snow on the ground) and we sat there and watched shapes in the clouds and she just talked and talked and squealed and giggled and was sweeter than ever.  Then, I took her inside for some sherbet as the last attempt at soothing and opening her airways and she snuggled and talked to me so sweet and said please and thank you for everything.  She’s simply amazing.

Now, since I feel bad for talking so much about my preemie when I have a miracle full-term baby as well, I’ll brag about her for a minute.  She’s almost 1 1/2 years old and she absolutely loves to laugh at her older sister’s silliness.  They’re a perfect pair :).  My baby is thoughtful, snuggly, courageous, and way more daring than my 3-year old has ever been!

The other day I took my girls to a small park.  I encouraged my 3-year old (preemie) to go down the slide and she absolutely wouldn’t!  Not even when I tried to sit her on my lap to go down did she dare do it.  So, I turned to see if my 1-year old wanted to and she was already climbing onto the slide about to take off without me!  I was so shocked.  It was her first time at a playground since she was old enough to get around and she had no fear.  She climbed up the steps, took off all over the playground, and didn’t hesitate a second to plop herself onto a slide and go!  Wow.

I love my girls!

Now…it’s your turn.  I want to hear you brag about your miracle babies!

Afton Mower About Afton Mower

After Mower (UT) lost her firstborn son at 21 weeks.  Her daughter was born a year and a half later at 27 weeks.  The NICU was overwhelming and isolating and it was through those two experiences she was led to found this social hub for parents to find the support they needed. Afton also gave birth to another daughter, born two days overdue after four months of strict bedrest. She believes it is a tender experience to hold a special baby in your arms when his spirit returns to his heavenly home, a miracle to watch tiny babies survive the risks of prematurity and a blessing to hold a healthy full-term baby after months of difficulty and sacrifices.

  1. My daughter Aubrey was born @ 30 wks. but I almost had her at 23wks, my waterbag broke at 23wks but the good LORD allowed me to hold her in for 7 more weeks. I stayed in the hospital on strick bedrest for 7wks and Aubrey stayed in my belly with little to no fluid that whole time. When she was born she weigh 3lbs 15inches and was on a vent. for 8days and been on oxygen since. She spent 12 weeks in the NICU and has been home for 4months. She came home on oxygen and meds and hopefully she’ll be off oxygen soon.. She truly is my little miracle!!!!!!

  2. my preemie was born at 31 weeks. I got him home about 3 weeks ago. We just past his actual due date, which was July 6 . Anyways they told me he would be 2 months behind on everything. Well its july 10th and hes been rolling over on his own for almost 2 weeks! Keep the faith and god will provide for you.

  3. angelaphora says:

My little angel is gaining weight- he is over 3 pounds now and it up to 21mls in his feeds after a bout with a perforated bowel that included surgery Christmas eve. he is a very mellow baby.

  4. I get told all the time how well my 2yr old talks for her age (and how polite). She was a 32wkr and less than a year ago she was not talking at all and they were worried about her hearing and the fact that she couldn’t roll off her back. She is 1000% better and is such a sweet girl, so attentive to her baby sister. My almost 6mo old was a 27wkr and has been EBFing since she came home and gains weight so well. smiles all the time and holds her head up perfectly and prefers sitting on mommy’s lap to being cradled. She is even starting to sleep through the night, perfect for her adjusted age 🙂 and their big sister is 3.5, amazing and affectionate and love to quote movies/books just like her dad. she is hilarious. I love the joy these girls bring into our lives.
