Help please, my premie was born at 33 weeks On April 7th. On April 30th, she finally made it home and since then it has been upside. I need help. I have had one term baby diagnosed with Asperating Pnuemonia and Reflux about 7 years ago, and I just cant remember the signs to look for in an asperating baby. My premie eats really well, and she is gaining plenty of weight, but I am afraid that as she eats, it sounds so wet down her throat and I could feel her milk go down her back. I make sure that she sits up as we feed, but I am just afraid that i am not seeing the signs of asperating or reflux. Help please.

I wish that I had known that I, as the mother, could take charge of my baby's care and accept or refuse any procedures suggested in the NICU. I don't think that I would have really changed anything or changed how my preemie was cared for, but it would have been liberating and empowering to realize that that tiny baby was mine and ultimately I was responsible for her. I did not like feeling like everything was out of my control and I was unimportant in my daughter's life for her most crucial few weeks.
